We do recommend putting our firearms through a break in period of at least 300-500 rounds. Also, using different brands of ammunition of SAAMI approved, factory new ammunition in the correct caliber can help the firearms action to smooth out.
You can find care and maintenance information on your Taurus firearms in your Owner’s Manual.
Dry firing a Taurus .22 pistol or revolver will cause damage to the firing pin. This does not include the TaurusTX™ 22 because it is designed to be dry fire safe.
The ambidextrous Three-position safety is offered in a couple of our models. It’s easily operated and provided at no additional charge. Depress with your thumb and safely drop the hammer or striker to de-cock the pistol. The safety returns to the OFF position, ready for double action shooting.
No. This was designed to shoot 45ACP ammo only with the Stellar Clips.
Yes, except for the .22 caliber pistols. .22 caliber revolvers such as models 94 and 941 also should not be dry fired. This does not include the TaurusTX™ 22 because it is designed to be dry fire safe.
Safety first is the motto of every law-abiding gun owner. With that in mind, Taurus provides a Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) on majority of our models. As with all Taurus safety and security innovations, the indicator in no way interferes with the operation of your pistol and is provided at no extra cost but allows you to verify with your finger or “at-a-glance,” that there is a round in the chamber. When a round is in the chamber, the loaded chamber indicator pops out of the slide. While having a loaded chamber indicator is no substitute for common sense and safe firearm handling, it is one more example of Taurus’ commitment to outstanding firearm safety. Do not rely on the loaded chamber indicator or any other safety device. Always clear any pistol by removing the magazine, pulling the slide back and visually confirming the chamber is empty. Always remember to “open and show clear.”
A firearm and ammunition are a system. Their performance is closely related.
You are responsible for selecting ammunition that meets industry standards and is appropriate for this firearm. Use ONLY commercially manufactured ammunition with internal ballistic pressures which are in strict accordance with the specifications of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute. NEVER use non-standard, reloaded, or “handloaded” ammunition which has not been subjected to internal ballistic pressure testing.
Ammunition, especially reloaded or handloaded ammunition, may have many manufacturing and quality variables (such as type and amount of gun powder). Any ammunition that is improperly manufactured, even the slightest degree, may fail to fire or may generate excessive internal pressures which can damage or even rupture the firearm, causing personal injury to the shooter or those in the immediate vicinity.
Use only ammunition specifically recommended by Taurus for your firearm. NEVER mix ammunition.
Use only commercially manufactured ammunition with internal ballistic pressures which are in strict accordance with the specifications of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI).
Be certain all ammunition you use complies with the SAAMI specifications. If you are uncertain, contact your ammunition supplier for verification.
As resellers, we do sell firearms directly to distributors and to the public. Any licensed firearms dealer can sell Taurus firearms. As a consumer, please contact your dealer of choice to ask them to place an order with their distributor, who will then fulfill the order based on the availability of their own inventory.
There are only four calibers that can carry a “+P” rating from SAAMI. They are 38 Special +P, 9mm Luger +P, 38 Super Automatic and 45 Automatic +P. There is not any other SAAMI approved “+P” loads. Any ammunition in any other caliber marked “+P” is not SAAMI compliant, may be dangerous and should not be used.
Even if your Taurus® firearm is rated for Plus-P (“+P”) ammunition, such ammunition generates pressures significantly in excess of the pressures associated with standard ammunition. Such pressures may affect the useful life of the firearm or exceed the margin of safety built into many firearms. Unless you need +P ammunition, do not use it, particularly for practice.
